Handy Helpers: A Christmas Deco Must-Have!

There is a really random item packed up with my holiday decorations. It’s one that I can’t live without. Let me explain.

I really hate the tree fluffing. It’s my least favorite part. I’m talking about the art of making an artificial tree look a little more full and not storage-worn. It was the most dreaded chore of decorating because I’d get all scratched from digging into the branches, then finally I realized, “Dummy, use gloves.” So I have these packed in the box with one of our trees. It really helps to be able to get in there and work, but still be able to protect your hands. It’s also good to wear long sleeves.

Maybe you’ve already put up your decorations this year, but I bet a lot of people will be doing it today since December 1st falls on a Saturday. This day used to be my gold standard. I would put up deco on December 1st and take it down on January 6th (Epiphany). If you’ll be decorating today, I hope this tip comes in handy.

So moral of the story…fluff your deco, and wear gloves!

Alternative Uses for Baby Items

This is a repeat for my Facebook friends, but it was too cute not to post here. The dogs get confused a lot since they used to have the run of the place, and now there is this new little person in the house. Sophie the Giraffe really throws them for a loop since she squeaks just like their toys. It’s a tough life for a weenie these days at Chez Ary…ha!

Knock, Knock, Knock…Housekeeping

Here are a few random odds and ends I wanted to update you on…

I can’t promise that my photography skills will be any better, but I do have a new phone with a better camera. I’m also enjoying Instagram, and I’ll be using those photos in posts from time to time. I don’t have a lot of time to devote to styling these days…you’ll probably see it as I’m eating it (wait…that’s not new).

New category! Now that I have a baby living in my house, I’ll try not to post about him constantly. However, with this life change, I have new things to offer. You can see all of my pregnancy, post-partum meal planning, and baby related posts under BettyBecca Baby.

I’ve been somewhat of a regular guest poster on FarmFlavor.com. See my posts under Article Results in the right column. I work for the company that produces the blog, but I’d love it just the same if I didn’t. It’s got TONS of recipes very neatly organized by cooking method, occasion, and ingredients. I love that the website is focused on farm to table, and I’ve learned so much from all of the experts that post there, too. In addition to writing posts from time to time, I also help curate the Diabetes Friendly recipes on the site and Pinterest board.

Follow me on InstagramPinterest, and Twitter.

Check out my updated biofavorite blogs, and taste profile.

Long Dogs Return

Here are my sweet boys! They’ve been so good since the baby arrived. The dynamic turned out a little differently than we expected though. We thought Oscar wouldn’t care anything about the baby…just go on with life, business as usual. And that Tucker would be protective. Boy, were we wrong! It’s the complete opposite.

Oscar is ever the guardian. We had to take it slow with him at first. He tried to treat the baby like a puppy. He still tries to be a good mama dog. Ha! I think he and E must have formed an early bond because Oscar would sleep around my baby bump all the time. Oscar never misses a meal, but when we first got home, he didn’t eat or play for the first few days. So worried…poor little guy. He’s back to normal now, but he still likes to keep an eye on things. Tucker could care less about the new addition to the family. He’s always been cat-like in that he only wants love on his terms.

I was worried when we first brought the baby home and the dogs started barking. We don’t really try to keep our noise level down, but this instance was rather loud and abrupt. E never even flinched. I think he got used to his puppies before he was born.

Sushi, Corn on the Cob, and Pickles

Weird combination, huh? Not if you’re pregnant! If you’re wondering where I’ve been…that’s it. I had quite the first trimester of sickness, but now that I’m about half-way through my pregnancy, I’m feeling much better. My appetite and energy have returned. I’m still not cooking very much (because who can plan ahead to have random things on hand?), but I’m feeling up to writing…so I’M BACK!

One Saturday a few weeks ago, I had to jump in the car to go to Publix immediately to grab those three items in the title of this post. I knew none of those things went together, but I had to have them. Most of the time, I haven’t been able to decide what I wanted to eat so this was a change for sure!

Don’t worry, I’m not eating raw fish sushi…only cooked or veggie only. I’ve had a hard time sticking to my two servings of fish a week. I just love it so much. It’s healthy and easy on my tummy, and I’m fairly sure I’ve exceeded the “recommendations” a few times…oops. There are worse things, right? I always vary the type of fish and never eat anything high in mercury.

For posterity’s sake, here are a few things I’ve been eating cantaloupe, plain rice and noodles, saltines, dill Triscuits, apples, pineapple, shredded wheat (Kashi – Island Vanilla), everything bagels with veggie cream cheese, asparagus, dumplings (no chicken), not a lot of meat in general but chicken and fish over beef, Mexican food (beans and rice!), grapes, tomatoes, peanut butter sandwiches, cottage cheese. For drinks, it’s mostly been water with the occasional lemon/lime soda, ginger ale, sweet tea, and very seldom coffee or Dr. Pepper when I need a small boost of caffeine.

So what’s the scoop?

Due: September 23rd

Sex: It’s a BOY!

Nursery decor: Adorable cartoon dinosaurs are on the bedding. The rest of the room will follow the colors. We’ll be shopping soon!

Parents and grandparents: ECSTATIC!

Doggies: Clueless

Favorite activity: Daddy reading good night stories to Mommy and babe (Curious George, Disney favorites, If you give a mouse a cookie, etc.)

Other prep: Lots of reading, studying, planning; checking Pinterest and searching in general for decor ideas, writing baby a weekly letter, keeping up with pictures of my growing bump
